DIRECTOR + INSTRUCTORS
After receiving her undergraduate degree in French and English literature from Cornell University, Katie Thornton, Director of Arles à la carte, completed a Masters degree in North African folktales and Women’s Studies at the University of Paris VIII in 2007. She worked for IES Abroad Paris (semester and year-long programs) and IES Abroad Arles (summer program) for over three years as Project Manager and Financial Officer and continues to collaborate with IES Abroad Arles during the summer. In 2009, she moved down to Arles full-time to develop Arles à la carte and begin teaching English and French at all levels.
Language Teaching Experience :
- Arles à la carte individual and small group language courses in English and French for all ages and all levels: 2010 to present.
- The Chambre of Commerce’s center for Continuing Education and Professional Development (Centre de Formation Continue) in Arles: 2010 to present
- St Charles Middle and High School in Arles: 2010 – 2012
- Fontvieille Elementary School: 2010-2011
Depending on the course requirements of the group or individual, French language courses are taught by Français Langue Etrangère (FLE) professors, university professors or local language instructors.
All professors, instructors, guides and guest speakers are local experts in their respective fields of study and work regularly with groups in the regional universities, schools and museums.
